Project Hope is a community service project designed to help women who are victims of abuse by providing them with necessities in the form of personal care bags and pet care bags. The White Pine Boys & Girls Club Torch Club believes it is important to serve women of abuse and provide them with the things they need to meet their basic needs.

Through Project Hope, the White Pine Boys & Girls Club Torch Club will connect with local domestic violence shelters to provide victims of abuse with personal care bags containing personal hygiene products, grooming products, and COVID-19 PPE. We will also provide the local domestic violence shelters with pet care bags which will contain pet food, pet shampoo, and a pet toy. The White Pine Boys & Girls Club Torch Club advisor had told the group that many times when women enter a domestic violence shelter, they do not get products to take care of their animals. We understand that it is important for these victims of abuse to be able to have companionship in the form of their pets and want to provide care for these animals as well.

All personal care bags and pet care bags will contain handwritten notes from White Pine Boys & Girls Club Torch Club members to give the victims of abuse positive affirmations and provide hope and comfort during their time of healing. White Pine Boys & Girls Club Torch Club members will also work with the local domestic violence shelters to provide a virtual information session to teach members about how domestic violence shelters operate and how they work to help the community. This will allow the Torch Club to learn more about the growing needs in the community and be inspired to act. Lastly, through this project, the Torch Club will take a field trip to drop off the personal care bags and pet care bags at a local domestic violence shelter. This will allow the members to be able to see the direct change we can make in our own community through exemplifying the Riley’s Way values of empathy, kindness, leadership, and connection making.
