Updates from Green Goddess
July, 2022
Hello my name is Miarri Phillips! I am so honored to be a 2022-2023 a Call for Kindness Grant Recipient. Miarri Phillips is a student where she is currently studying both psychology and sociology. She is a highly motivated individual passionate about social justice and has an intense drive to create change in areas that she recognizes. Miarri is actively involved in both her communities, starting with Rochester, New York, to her Denver campus. She is a beacon for change and a natural-born leader taking on any task and amplifying others' voices to see a more significant impact. Miarri was a Teaching Assistant and Cohort Coordinator for a Leadership Program at her previous institution. She has held several executive positions that educate others on the importance of active citizenship and civic engagement. She is notorious for her creative ideas and served as the Outreach and Engagement Chair for a nonprofit formerly known as Millennials 4 Environmental Justice. Phillips is also a Cities United Fellow alum taking a public health approach to gun violence. Miarri has had several internships and is always looking to implement her experiences into stepping blocks for future generations after her. Phillips was recognized as the 2021 Women of Color Environmental Leaders Move Mountains Grant Program in partnership with Greening Youth Foundation and The North Face. Her love for nature stems from attending summer camps that she attended as a young child, where she taught herself how to swim. She fell in love with nature and realized a connection to the outdoors. Miarri enjoys activities such as hiking, biking, and even zip lining.
This is how Green Goddess was developed. Green Goddess creates a space for girls of color to be their authentic selves. Our mission is to provide emotional and social support for girls of color to develop identity, purpose, and community, by providing and facilitating equitable and inclusive experiences in the outdoors. Our vision is to curate equitable and inclusive environments for young women of color to foster community, culture, and connectedness. The challenges that young girls of color face are varied from inequalities and barriers throughout their lifetime. Green Goddess has a six-step process solution to combating this problem at hand. We do so by offering outdoor exploration, holistic healing, environmental justice action trips, mentorship, career readiness, and brand partnerships. During this project we will be focusing on looking at yoga as a healing medium for young girls of color and hosting a college women's retreat! I am excited to be a Riley’s Way fellow and interact with all the other fellows during our workshops and learn about their projects!

Green Goddess has made significant progress since becoming a Call for Kindness Grant Recipient. We have expanded from a one-person team consisting of just our Founder Miarri Phillips to developing a team of 5. We have been onboarding our new team members who will be serving as directors in various capacities to help the expansion of our organization. Green Goddess is so grateful to have these new team members and we are excited to see what will come with the additional support and diversity of experience of other women of color who love this work as much as I do. Currently, we are in conversation with Urban Sanctuary, an all-inclusive yoga & wellness studio in the heart of Five Points, elevating the collective through movement, connection, & curiosity. We are hoping to run our six-part trauma-informed yoga series in partnership with Urban Sanctuary for approximately 10-12 girls of color, during the Spring of 2023. Additionally, we would like to build a partnership with the Therapist of Color Collaborative located in Denver, Colorado to help support us in designing a report that can be published on our future website that looks at the connection between mental health and holistic healing for young girls of color.
Being a Riley’s Way Fellow has helped me find a sense of community with other liked minded Fellows who are working on amazing projects. It’s really refreshing to be surrounded by the next generation of leaders.
The C4K grant has helped advance my project to the next level and impact a new group of girls and non-binary folx within the state of Colorado where I currently reside for school. It has also allowed me to think about the longevity of the organization and what the overall impact looks like essentially for the next two years.
I am most excited about the connections, collaborations, and programs that are coming up for Green Goddess and the influence and impact it has on the individuals that we serve!
